King Solomon said, “Gold, silver, and rubies
are nice, but we treasure far above those knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.”
If you can understand the
secret of greed then you have attained one of the secrets of prosperity.
There is an
old Babylonian tale about a fabulously rich king, who one day
received a strange visitor into his court. The man was not dressed like a man
of the court, but like a beggar on the street, but he neither was nor starved like
the rest of them out there. The king asked what he wanted. He told the king to
go to his treasure room. There he said, you will find it all gone. "Are you
mad," said the king laughing.
The king knew
his treasure was guarded day and night by loyal men. Besides, the room was a
huge former dungeon under lock and key. It held countless jeweled treasures’
of many former kingdoms conquered by the king in his younger days. From east to
the Euphrates and west towards the great Niger the treasure he had stored all
the fruits of war into this great cathedral of stone, it would take many men
several days to empty the room completely, he thought. No one could get inside
without blood being spilled, without help. "Someone’s head was going to roll
for this," he roared.
The king
ordered his guards to check the room. The men who had been guarding
the room, unlocking were surprised, and the room was dark with dust, but no shiny gold. No one wanted to inform the king, in case it was their head that
rolled off the block.
"Don’t
let that man leave ….I'll have your head." The strange man
was led by the King toward the treasure room. The king demanded to know where
the treasure had gone. "What is your name? How did you do this?" The
stranger replied, “Just remember your treasure in this life has no value in the
next."
"What
is your name?" The king demanded. The man replied, “They call me, the
messenger.” he said. “I come and go when my father demands it."
He turned and
walked away as if he was never there.
The king
died within a few months. To this day the greatest treasure of
Babylon has never been found. The legend also told that the slaves of Babylon
were freed soon after this meeting, but before the king died. Many today, still
believe that this was the price a king paid to live a few extra months.
Do you
understand the secret of greed? If you do then prosperity will follow by following
the rules.
Are you listening, what are you dreaming?
As Jesus said, “Belief is everything.”
