Brexit the Slings and Arrows of our Misfortune

Well, what would William Shakespeare say about Brexit? He would probably have written a comedy play and asked us to question the implications of the referendum to leave or stay in Europe. Perhaps, Shakespeare would use many devious characters as politicians on both sides of the argument vying for the meek and mild electorate and them not understanding that much of what they are told from each side of the debate is propaganda.

The truth is the real ‘To be or not to be’ question is immigration that  is currently running at around 350,000 net inflow per year into the United Kingdom (UK) that has had a detrimental effect on our National Health Service (NHS), education and housing. Most people have experienced the length of time it now takes to see your doctor and make an appointment. The extended waiting times at Accident and Emergency departments and the lengthy delays for surgery at NHS hospitals, the thousands of cancelled operations and the needed drugs for patients that are now unavailable because hospital trusts don’t have the funds with the increased population demand. Our schools system is also suffering because of the augmented demand from families with ever increasing number of school children in classrooms. The lack of affordable places to rent that now has become a real issue that most people experience in the UK whereas before this deluge of immigration it was mainly confined to London and the southeast.

Immigration has become a dirty word, but the truth is most politicians don’t want to talk about it because of the fear of being labelled a racist, but immigration is the real issue affecting the UK and the Brexit debate. So, perhaps Shakespeare would have said, “Too much of a good thing is not good enough.”
